Transportation ServicesWhat: These funds will be used for startup operating and capital funds to plan for and coordinate mobility and human services transportation systems in local communities by pooling available resources, i.e. coordinated transportation, taxi voucher programs, taxi accessibility projects, convertible ambulances, boats, snowmobile carts. Funds will also be used to purchase or replace accessible vehicles owned by consumer-run and other provider non-profit corporations for non-coordinated uses where coordination is not feasible. And finally, funds will be used for the Alaska Mobility Coalition to provide training and technical assistance on coordinated transportation.
Why: People with mobility and other disability-related transportation needs will be able to gain access to their community. By pooling and utilizing all available resources, more individual needs for transportation can be met. The community and providers benefit through better and more efficient use of funding and vehicles.
