Inclusive Practice Award

To be awarded at Awards Luncheon February 19, 2008 at 17th annual Alaska Statewide Special Education Conference

Nomination Form

The Governor’s Council on Disabilities & Special Education has established an award to be given at the Annual Statewide Special Education Conference late February 2008.  This award will provide an opportunity to recognize a teacher that affirms that all students with disabilities shall be provided a quality, inclusive education that assures full and meaningful access to the general education curriculum.  Parents, students and educators are encouraged to nominate that special teacher by completing the attached nomination form and getting it to the Council by 3 p.m.on January 12, 2008.  The Awards committee is made up of Council members from the Education and the Early Intervention Committee and a University representative. For more information click here.

Criteria for the inclusive practice award:

  • Individuals are currently educators including early interventionists, preschool, regular, special educators, related service providers, administrators
  • Nominees will have demonstrated one or more of the following:
    • Involves parents as equal partner in their child’s education
    • Encourages student’s self-determination
    • Emphasizes inclusive practices amongst peers and others
    • Provides leadership in sharing the values of inclusion
    • Designs or provides support services that enables access to the regular curriculum
    • Modifies programs or curricula as needed
