Duane G. Mayes

Prior to joining the Council, Duane worked for 26 years in the field of Rehabilitation. He has worked both in the state and private sector providing rehabilitation services to Alaskans. In the last 17 years Duane has and continues to teach American Sign Language courses through the University of Alaska Anchorage and provides an assortment of trainings in all aspects of rehabilitation statewide. Duane is the son of Deaf Parents and is fluent in American Sign Language. He was raised in Wisconsin and earned his Masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. He is married and has two adult daughters, both born and raised in Alaska. Duane continues to be actively involved in the disability community. He is an active outdoor person and enjoys hiking, backpacking, and snowshoeing with his best friend, his wife.
